Why Sifra Microfinance Networking Facilitators in the Mediterranean countries ?Within the framework of the Euro–Mediterranean Partnership (Process of Barcelona), Sifra chose to make a contribution to the intensification of the sector of the microfinance as tool of fight against the poverty, the tool of insertion of the women in the formal business and tool of their "empowerment".
Since March 2002 until now, a euro-medierranean Platform for Microfinance has been established. 30 MFIs and NGOs are part of it.
The network's name is SHARAKA
Microfinance, a financial instrument for women
Sifra is particularly interested in microfinance development in favor of women. They are the prime beneficiary of this “precariousness reduction” and “empowerment” instrument.
Sifra aims at contributing to conflicts prevention in very precarious societies, fixing populations in their regions, allowing the women to have access to the world of the formal work, stopping the exodus of populations which result in anarchical urban growths and slowing down the vicious cycle of the illegal immigrations fed by the dream of a better future.
Sifra chose to use the words "microfinance" instead of «micro-credit » to emphasize the fact that financial more services can be offered to the beneficiaries (saving plans, insurances, home facilities, etc… ).

Euro-Mediterranean Meeting on Microfinance on 11, 12 and 13 Octobrer, Brussels
Facing the well-know rigidities of the European Commission on Microfinance matters, we have addressed the members of Parliament. They have decided to organise a Hearing of the Commission on October 11, 2005 in order to obtain a specific credit line for MF in the Mena countries.
During the session, Sifra asbl and Etimos Consortium and Etimos France will give the floor to MFIs from different countries of your region. It is a real occasion, in the name of all, to present the state of development of Micro Finance in five specific countries (Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon and Morocco), the needs and expectations of the sector, in order for the European Commission and the members of Parliament to get a good knowledge of the situation.
The European Parliament formally expects to get a general information (the particular situation of the IMF is only a base to illustrate the general purpose) to illustrate the need of a specific credit line for MF in the Mena Program and the especially for women.
On October 12 and 13, the conference itself we be held in the Belgian Parliament in order to confront expectations of the MF sector and answering capacities of public and private funders and investors.
